The Agora Concept

The Agora was a central "place of assembly" in ancient Greek city-states where people met to buy and sell, assembled to discuss all kinds of topics: business, politics, current events, or the nature of the universe and the divine . The Agora of Athens, where ancient Greek democracy first came to life, provided a vibrant setting to examine the commercial, political, religious, and cultural life of one of the great cities of the ancient world. Agoras in Greek city-states were sacred to the local community - it is true that they were political, but in these cities the line between political and religious didn't exist as we know it today.
